House Hunting

August 28, 2014

The House Hunt is on… The Mr and I are looking for our future family abode.

In all reality we always have been and we might always be. We are dreamers at heart and are already thinking about where the wind might blow us once our littlest little is out of the nest as an adult in 14-ish years. But, to ensure we live in the moment right now… We are hunting. House hunting that is.

We’ve set the rules and engaged a real estate agent and now the hard work, the tireless reviews, the accounting and the emotional decisions will need to be made. We realize this will be our “starter” home. The first home we call home as a blended family, but we also realize this will not be our dream home.

Right now we are looking in very specific zip codes (we love Arcadia), with rules as follows: minimum of 3 bedrooms (preferably 4 bedrooms), minimum 2 bathrooms (preferably 3 bathrooms), must have covered parking (preferably a garage) and must have a dishwasher (there is no preference this is a must). It’s the little things in life like fitting our whole family into one home, providing a space that is comfortable and serene and again, having a space that is ours. We know a few things to be true – a three bedroom house might feel small, but with rotating schedules and a kid in high school,  house poor is the last thing we want to be. We also know that this is our starter home so the most important this to us right now is getting a home that works and that we can rent out when the timing is right.

What am I most excited about? Finding a space to call home. It might be for just right now, but it will be ours. Adding our touch to it. With the budget and must haves we have determined me may be buying a “fixer upper” this go round and that will be fun because everything we decide will be in our taste and reflect us. I am excited to invest in new furniture and create rooms for our girls that are theirs. I am excited to do the hunting.

And at the end of the day if we don’t find something to fall in love with, that creates excitement, something that we feel at home and safe in, well… We will wait and look again soon. Here’s to the hunt.

It’s a good decision that you sought the help of a real estate agent to help you look for your future home. At the very least, you don’t have to worry about going through a house tour, then get frustrated when things didn’t go according to plan. Anyway, are there any updates about your house-hunting journey? I’m so excited to hear from you! All the best!
