Today was a GREAT day… My whole life I have been a little fishy. Always enjoying the water. Whether I was in a city pool in NY, swimming in Lake Huron, competing on my high school swim team or just finding the nearest pool, lake or ocean on vacations, I loved the water and I loved swimming. Still do. So, you can see why introducing Doodle to the water was so very important to me. I have been looking forward to getting back into the water since her birth. There is a sense of peace for me under the sun and in the water. I also was so very excited to introduce Avery to my personal heaven.
Today was the day. We headed to grandma and grandpa’s and we swam.
I was a bit nervous at first… So many things to watch out for; is the water too cold, don’t let go of her whatever you do, make sure she is not in the sun too long… The list goes on. However, putting all thoughts aside and just being in the moment… We entered the water slowly, touched her toes to the cooler than expected pool and waited for her reaction. There was none. Dipped her ever so slightly and further into the water, she seemed to relax. Her tush was submerged, still peace. I moved her to the floaty my mom has had since my oldest niece was a baby… Still, again, peace. I leaned her against the inflated headrest and she sank into relaxation, closing her eyes and sucking her binkie. After a couple minutes and a couple photos it was time to take her out, the sun was beating down and she was showing signs of hunger. I cuddled her closely in the pool towel and she rested into bottle time and napping.
WE DID IT. We survived. She seems to love water. What a success. I am so excited as I want Doodle to get used to water soon, I want to begin lessons early on, I want her safety to be top priority. So grateful we know she enjoys water, it’s a start.
