11 About Me – Liebster Award

April 9, 2014

You know when you read a blog EVERY SINGLE DAY and you love the person who writes the blog because they are authentic and awesome and inspirational. And then you happen on their blog and you see they nominated you for a Liebster Award… Thank you Ky at Two Pretzels!!! Here goes my 11…

Here are the rules to accept the award:

1. Acknowledge the blogger who nominated you and display the award.
2. Answer eleven questions the blogger gives you.
3. Give eleven random facts about yourself.
4. Nominate eleven blogs that you think are deserving of the award. (The caveat is that they shouldn’t have a large following already.)
5. Let the bloggers know you nominated them.
6. Give them eleven questions to answer.

So here are the questions Ky asked me:

1. Simply, why do you blog?
I blog as a creative outlet and as a way to challenge myself to grow.

2. What’s your “signature meal?”
Green Chili Chicken Enchiladas, Coconut Cake or Cake Pops (at least that’s what I am known for cooking)

3. Name a moment where you felt content.
Watching Doodle sleep. Watching J and Doodle interact. Watching Doodle with her sisters giggling.

4. Name a moment that changed you.
My divorce. Failure and success both resided in that life choice. Learning my strengths and weaknesses. Growing from the experience into a more empathetic and sympathetic individual.

5. Do you like your name? If so, why? If not, what would you change it to?
Yes, Melanie is a name that everyone seems to know, yet no one knows many, if any other Melanie’s. It’s nice to be both known and unique.

6. Name something you love about the way you were raised.
I love the memories of holidays I have. My parents were not “over-the-top” folks (Pinterest didn’t exist), but I love the tradition that my mom and dad created for us regarding holidays. I also love that we had to earn everything (all the big things at least). We were taught the value of money at such a young age, we knew everything was earned and there was a price to pay for everything.

7. Dessert after dinner, or on occasion?
Always after dinner.

8. How do you feel about pets?
I love my pups. I cannot imagine life without a pup or two.

9. Fill in the blank, “If it were socially acceptable, I would…”
I would take a stronger stance on my beliefs in public.

10. What’s your idea of success?
Being at peace and happy with the job/career I have from 8-5 monday-friday. And accomplishing the personal careers goals I set for myself.

11. What would you have told your 16 or 18-year-old self?
Everyone grows up and as an adult life becomes a level playing field, the people you saw as “better” than you and popular in High School will be just like you as an adult. Don’t get caught up in the popularity hype and worry that you are not enough. When you are an adult what will matter is not the shoes you wear or the amount of friends you have, what matters will be how kind are you, how hard working are you, how self sufficient are you, how do you treat people and do you like yourself? Insecurity is a secret dislike for yourself, so learn what makes you love you and chase that while treating the world with love and kindness.

Oh, oh, oh! I loved reading this.

    I love your parents traditions… 🙂

And I agree — let's hear it for cheese and bread! Woop, woop.

And we are SO similar. Wow. I struggle running, I remember outfits first, I used to PRETEND I had braces by bending a paper clip and sticking it in my mouth (seriously), and my core girl group has been in my life since 1997. There are 14 of us.

    SIGH.

    You're awesome.

And P.S. You're truly one of the strongest and most inspiring people I know. You have a gift; you make people feel comfortable around you. I wish we lived closer.
